The history I'm being taught seems very accurate and excellent.

@Hecate: one thought I had: how easy was it being in Scandinavian schools on an American education?

Hrm. . .it was different. I'm not sure I'm the best to answer that particular question, because I was in either intro courses, or courses that were taken mainly by international students. >.>

The only course I took that was an actual track/programme course was Språksociologi (Sociolinguistics), which I sadly had to drop because I couldn't manage the workload, despite that I loved it. We tended to have 10 pages of academic work to read for each class, and we had periodic essays, and in depth discussions in class. We were occasionally broken into groups to discuss. . .

I felt a bit lost, and not because I didn't understand the readings (I understood them fine, though it took me a while to read them) - but because I seemed to not know how to put things into order, or how to make good points. There was certainly a difference, but I'm not sure I can put my finger on it.

Sociolinguistics?

And so would you say someone like me or of sinilar education would fare well there? (I'm not planning on going or anything, I'm just curious if it'd be hard to.)

Sociolinguistics is a branch of linguistics that focuses on the social aspects of language. >.>

That said, I can't really answer that either. : \ Especially since I was there for university, no high school or whatnot and the systems are different. . . When I speak of Finnish schools, I mainly speak of what I've read/heard of grade schools.

Oh, the other day I did ask my English teacher why Shakespeare was a genius/famous and she couldn't really give me a straight answer. Also my history textbook explicitly says about the US/Mexico war "The war was instigated by the US, who gave a punishing defeat."

Just figured I'd through that out there.

Marilyn Monroe.

I simply despise her as an icon.See a shop with her face in it? Walk out of the shop. I just.can't.do.it. Especially the Andy Warhol prints. Don't get me wrong, I get you Andy and I have nothing against Monroe personally. But I did enough reading ad searching to find out about her and her life.

Just don't have an once of respect for the fake, plastic image of herself. That bratty, over bearing, demanding personality that I see in her image and whenever a person glorifies her. Because they aren't celebrating her, not Norma Jeane Mortenson, but that damn icon that seems to tell people" Naw, it's totally okay to be a gigantic a-hole,in fact, celebrate it!"

The end.

I am so glad I saw this thread. I really needed it today.

I am usually a very mellow guy, but I can not stand political, bias, stuck in their ways extremists.
Over the course of my life, I have lived in many places. I grew up In California, practically the most left leaning state in the country. I grew up in Texas, the opposite. I have also lived in alaska, illinois, florida, and missuri. I have seen all sides, and can I just say, I HATE THEM.

To be honest, If you worship the devil (which here near SanFran, there is the church of satin) I do not care, as long as you keep it to yourself. But as soon as you start yelling to me about, trying to force your views on people, refusing to have an honest debate, you become a true moron. To top it all off, 90% of the time, the "facts" they spew are all wrong.

People who follow a specific set of political beliefs and follow blindly are retarded. This is not to be confused with religion. Religion is a personal and spiritual choice that is totally different, or at least it should be. Unlike a deity, no political leader deserves blind devotion. Most non religion related political questions can be viewed through simple facts. We live in the age of internet. This is a blessing and a curse. This means that there are a million ways to find correct statistics and facts about various things. This does NOT mean that what someone said on a random blog is true. If you are being told that "its their fault why blablabla is in this situation, find out why and if it is their fault. Don't just accept the random general idea.

I've had every view shoved in my face, from my 6 grade teacher in California making the class right "I hate america poems", to screaming pro war advocates of Texas. You can be stalwart in your views. I encourage it. But BE informed about them. Know exactly why you support what you do. Question your leaders constantly. Don't just accept the reason that xyz is simply "bad" for the country. By being an idiot, you ruin what democracy is all about. AND DON'T SCREAM IT IN MY FACE.

That is all. Thank you for listening.

Satanism actually has some beliefs that are worth shoving down people's throats. The second grand rule of satanism is to never make advances after someone refuses. The official church of satan is kinda mean but people who don't follow it have some pretty neat rules like never harm children or animals, don't disrespect people, treat other people's property with dignity, never steal, and don't be an unnecessary burden. I have a full list of them on my tumblr somewhere, it's a great rubric.

haha, fair enough. And I take your views into consideration to be filled in the bureaucratic nightmare that is my head. Also, considering Satinism is technically a religion. it was a bad example. I meant more so even if your political views are outlandish, I'd be fine if you keep the, to yourself.

Having a religion/opinion is like having a penis. Its ok to have one, its not ok to force it down other people's throats.

That's it. That's my contribution to the topic.
