Hehe. I figure his name is something of a giveaway.
Nico and Serafine have traces of Barrow Gang influence about them but Mordecai is a product of Jewish Harlem. He's fashioned a little more in the Bugsy Siegel or Meyer Lansky mold -- ruthless as Clyde Barrow, but equipped with a head for business.

Most people associate prohibition with Al Capone.

Today I learned that Al Capone was DUMB. Like really, really dumb.

It delights me to know that all the characters in this comic are smart in one way or another :D

History is never what it seems.

Like, for example, Hitler was a brave and honorable soldier in WW1. In fact, he was awarded several medals for bravery and was wounded in combat quite a few times. Quite a contrast to the guy who hid in a bunker for weeks before mustering the courae to shoot himself, no?

You know why the Imperial Guard lost the battle of Waterloo in 1815? They forgot their tanks. Everyone knows the Guard sucks without their tanks!

Been a while but I seem to remeber he worked as a sign painter. They believe some of his hatreds grew at that time, and his mentality changed in part due to lead poisoning form the paint.

He was actually Austrian and he had his German citizenship stripped from him at one point for the beerhall rebellion.

Time can change people. A lot. At 49 I've seen it in myself as well as a lo tof other people. A lot of people start out as idealists thinking they can fix the world, subsequently find otu they can't, and can get bitter about it.

Unless this story ultimately progresses into the 1950's theres no room for that in character development though. Fortunately all of the characters will be too old to be drafted into WW2 - provided they survive the roaring 20's - and some of them haven't already.

The name was selected on purpose. Hehe - not sure if that's meant to be a question or not, though.

Maybe (harharhar) she picked 'May' as a surname because it sounds good. The alliteration in "Mitzi May" sounds pleasant to the human ear. Lots of writers pick weird names based on how they sound (Moliere's Tartuffe and that other guy's Madame Bovary)
