Because Marigold was their biggest competitor.
The best way to dissolve a threat is from the inside.
We don't know enough yet to be definitive; Just enough to speculate.

Meh, I'm not really convinced. It still wouldn't explain Mordecai emptying Lackadaisy's armory and agreeing (he agreed by not disagreeing... if that makes any sense) in helping some pig farmers who want to attack it. The first by itself wouldn't be much, considering Lackadaisy was out of business, but putting those two together...

(And yes, everything's here just speculations)

Because what would happen if he refused?
It will instill doubt with his loyalty.
And that's all they need to fire him.
Or worse.
Mordecai knew Viktor could take care of a few inexperienced farmers, he would have killed them all no problem if Rocky and Co. didn't barge in.

Hm. That seems... plausible, I guess... Can't think of anything else to answer atm. xD
Also, it would be a great turn of events if it came true!

P.S.: I think we might went a bit offtopic here... :P

My guess is that either Viktor or Zib will bite the dust. Viktor pretty much has a bullseye on his back already, while Zib's current situation seems to paint him as a candidate for kicking the bucket.
Of course, I wouldn't put it past Miss Tracy to pull a whammy on us and kill off someone unexpected like Rocky or Freckle.

Killing off Freckle to give Rocky a reality check would be a deliciously ballsy manuver, though I think the comic would grow significantly darker in the process.

Yeah, I think it's been pretty much determined that killing Rocky, Ivy, or Freckle would make the comic something a lot grittier. You know how Tracy has kept assuring us that this dark little scene will be followed up by something a bit more lighthearted? It seems clear that maintaining a somewhat upbeat feel in the comic is important to her. I don't think she would kill any of the three main sources of that.

I think Nico and Serafine will go out together, like Bonnie and Clyde.
But it'll probably happen towards the end when things are climaxing.

I never really got a "Main character" vibe from Ivy.
She always seemed to be the person that was introduced with no history, no motive, and generally just a stapled straightforward love interest to follow.
We've seen Rocky and Calvin's past, we've glimpsed Mitzi and Zib, Mordecai has gotten the spotlight a few times with or without Viktor, and we've even seen some of Atlas (Which always reminds me of Bioshock).
Ivy just sort of appeared and was suddenly the love interest for no other reason than "You're my boyfriend now.".
It may just be her attitude but it all seems so shoehorned with the plot.
The entire story wouldn't lose much besides some continuity errors if Ivy just up and disappeared over the coming arc.
I really think Calvin need a different hubby, someone with a different attitude or more of a connection.
If anything I get the "Distant cousin" vibe from seeing their interactions (Besides the kisses, god no.).
/Opinion

I didn't mean that she was a main character. I meant that she was a main source of the upbeat feel of the comic. She's one of the things that allows the comic, despite having frequent depressing subject matter and characters, to stay so lighthearted. If Ivy is killed, the comic suddenly becomes less like a joyous romp and more like a tragic mess.

Rocky provides more than enough for everybody present, and newcomers are happysourced by Freckle.
Really, never got why Ivy was even there.

You may not like the character, but she actually does play an integral part in the progression of the story. I didn't put her there for the hell of it.
