Because an internet friend of mine, (smarticus), told me that 80% of this fourm are female, I decided to prove wrong his claim.

Simply state your gender, e.x Male. That's it, I'd rather the lot of you not discuss in this thread, or post twice, because that would slow down the progress of science. I'll count when this thread reaches 30 unique posts or something.

I'll start.

Male.

I suggest you use a poll. Also this has been done before, search the archives (use google, the search on the forum doesn't work so well).

It's been proven by science. 100% of this forum is male. We can stop now.

Oh, come on, 97% of all statistics are false (overused joke, I know).

This poll also focuses on the assumption that everyone on the forum is going to see this and vote. Also the assumption that everyone on this forum identifies as either male or female :P

That's easily solvable. Everyone who doesn't identify as either male or female just don't vote. It'll work out, just see.

Well, I suppose the poll refers to physical anatomy, not sexual orientation. But you're right, it is quite unclear.

Makes me wonder if statistics used by the mass media are of similar ambiguity...

Even with physical anatomy that does not mean that everyone identifies as purely male or female. And sexual orientation and gender orientation are not the same things. A not too science-y, but still interesting video that explains it pretty simply I believe.

I'm not saying gender issues don't exist, but they're rare, and those not identifying as either gender are rarer still. The likelihood of one such person being an active member of this forum is pretty damn low, and if there is one, no one is forcing them to vote in this poll.

And here's where the whole thread devolves into something vaguely resembling the topic.

To clarify some terminology, 'sexual orientation' refers to what gender someone finds attractive, not to what gender they identify as.

And I would take the poll as referring to gender, not your physical anatomy. While technically the terms 'male' and 'female' refer to physical sex, I think it far less problematic to interpret all such questions as meaning 'what's your gender?' (as in what gender do you identify as). I mean, that's what matters.

Also, people who don't identify as one or the other generally call themselves neutrois, non-binary, androgynous or genderqueer, with the latter being a kind of umbrella term for many different non-binary ways of identifying.

On the contrary, according to the Freudian theory of identification as the basis of attraction, the self is the domain of every form of sexual attraction and satisfaction: I consider myself a member of a particular gender and, as a result, form sexual relationships with other individuals, not the other way around. But accepting Freud is my personal decision and by no means am I forcing anybody to do so - I'm simply stating my opinion.

My personal interpretation of the word "gender", as aforementioned, is physical anatomy, so there is no difference between these two words, as I see it. And what gender one identifies themselves as matters only if they find it an important aspect of their lives, a reality I do not have the required knowledge and perceptive abilities to access.
